Your work stays yours
You retain rights in content you provide. Molstudio gets only the permission needed to run the service.
Legal / terms
Molstudio is a scientific visualisation and authoring service. These terms protect your ownership, explain the service boundary, and make one point explicit: a compelling molecular image is not, by itself, scientific evidence.
You retain rights in content you provide. Molstudio gets only the permission needed to run the service.
You are responsible for your credentials, account activity and the project links you distribute.
Visual, generated and heuristic output must be checked before publication or consequential use.
Availability can change. Keep portable exports of projects you cannot afford to lose.
These terms are an agreement between you and the operator of Molstudio. By accessing or using Molstudio, creating an account, saving a cloud project or opening a shared project, you agree to them and to the Privacy Policy.
You must be legally able to make this agreement. If you use Molstudio for an employer, school or other organisation, you confirm that you have authority to accept these terms for that organisation. If local law requires a parent, guardian or school to authorise your use, you must have that permission.
Molstudio provides browser-based tools for molecular visualisation, scene authoring, animation, analysis, project storage and sharing. Subject to these terms, you may use the service for lawful personal, educational, research and commercial work.
Molstudio and its licensors retain rights in the service itself, including its software, interface, branding, documentation and supplied assets. You may not copy, sell, sublicense or reverse engineer protected parts of the service except where applicable law expressly permits it.
Provide accurate account information, keep your password and sign-in provider secure, and do not share an account in a way that defeats access controls. You are responsible for activity performed through your account unless the activity results from a security failure caused by Molstudio.
Tell us promptly at [email protected] if you believe your account or a private project has been accessed without permission. A project share link is a bearer capability: anyone who receives it can access that snapshot while the link is active, so distribute and revoke links with care.
You retain ownership of content you provide. That includes uploaded structures, trajectories, audio, annotations, custom geometry, project documents and original scene work, subject to any rights that already belong to others.
You grant Molstudio a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, copy, process, transmit and display your content only as needed to operate, secure and maintain the service, follow your save and share instructions, provide support, and comply with law. This licence ends when the content is deleted from the service, apart from limited backup, security and legal-retention copies.
You are responsible for ensuring that you have the rights and permissions needed for content you upload or share, and for respecting source-database terms, licences, attribution requirements, confidentiality obligations and publication restrictions. Molstudio does not take ownership of third-party scientific data simply because it is loaded into a project.
Creating a share link instructs Molstudio to make one saved snapshot available to anyone holding that link. It does not grant recipients rights beyond the permission you or the underlying rights holder provide. Revocation blocks later retrieval through Molstudio but cannot recall copies already downloaded.
Do not use Molstudio to break the law or another person’s rights, expose confidential or personal data without authority, distribute malware, harass or deceive people, overload or disrupt the service, bypass security or usage controls, probe another user’s account or projects, or automate abusive traffic.
Do not present fabricated, altered, illustrative or modelled scientific material as an unaltered observation. You are responsible for captions, provenance, citations and disclosures appropriate to your audience and field.
Molstudio helps inspect data, construct scenes and communicate ideas. It does not certify that an input structure, calculation, interpretation, animation or export is correct, complete, reproducible or suitable for a particular scientific conclusion.
Do not use Molstudio as medical, diagnostic, clinical, safety-critical or regulatory advice. It is not a substitute for qualified professional judgement, validated software, laboratory evidence or peer review.
Molstudio relies on providers for identity, hosting, storage and email, and can link to or import material from third-party sources. Those services and materials may have their own terms, privacy policies, licences and availability. Molstudio is not responsible for third-party content or a third party’s independent acts, but this does not reduce any responsibility Molstudio cannot lawfully exclude.
Molstudio may add, change, limit or discontinue features; set reasonable technical or usage limits; interrupt the service for maintenance or security; or suspend access needed to protect users, the service or the law. Where practical, material changes will be communicated in advance.
You may stop using Molstudio at any time and request account deletion. Molstudio may suspend or terminate an account for a serious or repeated breach of these terms, unlawful use, security risk, or where continuing the service is no longer practical. When reasonable, we will give notice and an opportunity to export content first.
Cloud storage is a convenience, not your only backup. Export portable copies of important projects. Account closure or project deletion does not erase browser-local recovery data on your devices or copies already downloaded by share recipients.
To the fullest extent the law permits, Molstudio is provided “as is” and “as available”, without promises that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, scientifically accurate, compatible with every device, or fit for a particular purpose. You remain responsible for reviewing outputs and maintaining appropriate backups.
To the fullest extent the law permits, Molstudio is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, loss of data, lost profits, lost opportunity, or decisions made from unverified scientific output. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that the law does not allow to be excluded, or limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived.
If one part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. A delay in enforcing a term is not a waiver. You may not transfer your account or these terms without permission; Molstudio may transfer the service and these terms as part of a reorganisation or transfer of the service, subject to applicable law.
We may update these terms when the service or law changes. The date at the top will change, and material changes will be presented through the website or account experience. Continuing to use the service after revised terms take effect means you accept them; if you do not, stop using the service and request deletion of your account.
Questions about these terms can be sent to [email protected].
